Though a bit dated, the Insider manages to give an in-depth look at Michael Mann's early work that's developed over the past few years. Particularly in the field of the thinking man's action flick, this movie delivers on all fronts. With an inventive soundtrack that creates high tension without the use of anything but his camera, he manages to create characters that are fully formed and moving. Admittedly, the cinematrography is not as powerful as some other ones by the same director, even with a few shots which I found absolutely redundant and needed cutting, but it's still one of the most influentual works by the director to date. 8.5/10.
