Native Effectivity

Had this idea on the plane and sketched out this Native American-inspired tee design for EffectiveUI's latest branding effort. It's still got a little tweaking to do, but I like the way it came out.

Fight to Brand

Yet another nightly brand exploration project. Free work for EffectiveUI if they were to ever go the hipster route on their next segment of swag releases.

Whiskey Militia Bar Sketch

The idea: Create a bar for whiskey lovers. Decor will be urban country club. Leather seating paired with modern lighting with an inviting dance floor. Reasonably priced drinks. Whiskey-Coke for $9. Beers for $6.

Here comes the best part. Every evening from 3-5PM for happy hour, we'll have this special. We call it the "Ben Hook Deal" (based off this guy genius). Basically, if you order a bottle of your favorite whiskey (and trust us, we'll have lots to choose from), you get access to unlimited beer. The catch? You'll need to have 5 friends with you and all must order at least one (1) regular drink in order to reap the benefits.

There are, of course, some legal issues with this new approach to social drinking, but it's a tempting endeavor that I wish I could experiment with if I only had a few more investors. Must start making investor friends.

Hypothetical Hypotheticals

What better things are there to do at 6AM on a Friday morning? Esikmo is 1) a new media company. Esikmo is 2) a music production studio. Esikmo is 3) a collective of starving artists living in a studio in Brooklyn. Esikmo 4) makes modern homes.

New (Moo) Business Minicards

The way I see it, everything should be collectible art in one way or another. My business cards are obviously no exception! Arrrrr!

Geometrical!

Man, Illustrator's such a badass weapon. I don't think I've had this much fun in a long time with a computer tool. This one is numero 6/20 and 7/20 of my limited edition Pog prints that I'll be printing on my newly acquired Pog Maker from the 90's.

Update: ROFL! Did anyone know they had a Beer Pogz game out? I bet a bunch of college students made it a single night of drunken madness. But man, what an ingenious invention.

Experiencist Redesign Underway

Taking some inspiration from one of my biggest typographic stars, Oliver Munday, I spent about 3 hours exploring designs/sharpening my Illustrator skills. Fonts used: Adobe Caslon and Knockout.

I Mean Business

Self-branding can be one of the most difficult projects one can undertake (Trust me, I've been at it for a while). But I think I've finally settled on a design I like very much. It streamlines with my current portfolio and utilizes the same resources used on the site. Plus, they're nice and skinny and all sexy and shit.

Social Capital

The social wealth theory goes a little something like this:

Compared to use of networking site like Facebook, direct communication with your friends is associated with greater bonding social capital and lower loneliness. On the other hand, passive consumption of your friends' news tends to make you feel much lonelier and less connected.

While both have been proven true through research, the reality of the matter is that the passive news feeds equates to a disconnected, unfulfilled experience when news feed algorithms remain mysterious and unseen by the Facebook user. In a sense, all shared news within a user's social circle should not be treated the same; if you know a friend is looking for a job and them to see it, there should be the ability to allow prioritization of such news items to create social capital, even when friend circles remain small.

Good design ain't easy. Neither is recycling all those cans into something useful. Unless you've got the marketing brains of Coca-Cola and Emeco to do a collaboration that'll leave you begging for more. Bless this epic reincarnation!
