You know. Just sayin'. TVs just never look right sitting atop the fireplace like that. Case in point can be seen over at Honky Design.

The 24" LCD Monitor Hunt of 2009
New grad program. New laptop. Looks like I'm going to need to upgrade into the 24-inch domain, just to complete the whole ordeal. So far, the best monitor I've come across the Dell 2408WFP, which comes with a gazillion ports - DisplayPort, HDMI, 2 DVI-D's, VGA, component, an audio out, and a bunch of USB ports and card reader on the side. It's nuts. Heck, maybe I won't even need a TV anymore.

Pieces of Style Makin' Heaven a Reality
If there is anything I love more than home technology, it's the furniture that accompanies them. However, given the absurd price tags on some of these pieces, there are many times where it is difficult to justify such a purchase. Luckily, Gus*Modern has prices that are fairly reasonable (and when I say reasonable, I meant working professional earning at least $45k reasonable) - my favorite being the Bathurst Media Center table for $1695. Just lookin' at it makes me want to stroke the fine lines on the wood paneling... oh dear...

Logue Studio n02 TV Stand
Wahoo! It's like a TV stand with robot legs. Awesome-o! Funny thing is, the stand will put you back $1100, which costs more than most LCD TV's out there today. Oh, how grand is that!

The General Plasma TV Gaming Debate
Plasma fan: Plasmas are great for gaming. You don't get any motion blur and the black levels are great.
LCD fan: Yeah, but I don't want to worry about burn in. The new LCDs are so much better than the old ones. Motion blur is no longer an issue and more LCDs are 1080p.
Plasma fan: Burn in is not an issue with newer plasmas. You just have to be careful. 1080p is not a big deal unless you have a 50"+ TV and sit really close.
LCD fan: 1080p is the best thing ever. I can see the benefits of 1080p in a 32" TV at ten feet. Besides, I don't want to baby my TV. Plasmas only look good in dark rooms.
Plasma fan: You must have super human eyesight. LCDs only look good in bright rooms. I don't mind babying my TV for superior picture quality. Your black levels suck.
LCD fan: You suck.
And so on and so on.

And so I've decided...
...Not to buy any monitor that's not HDCP compliant.
That includes the current Apple monitors. If you buy one today and connect it to your new Mac Pro, you won't be able to display HD content from a Blu-Ray player Apple may release next year, and don't expect Apple to help you when you complain. This goes the same with PC's that aren't really compatible unless you find homebrewed WinACD drivers floating around the net somewhere.
I would suggest that everyone boycott Apple displays until they add HDCP!
I really don't understand why Apple ever released the newer line of displays without HDCP. It was really stupid.
PS: I also hear Apple doesn't really attempt to repair any buggy monitors, they just replace them. Therefore, you're better off buying Apple Care to extend your crappy 1 year warranty, or else you'll get charged with a full priced monitor when you send it into repair.
