Initial Take on Intellectual Usability Design

Like when the first man planned out the city plan of New York's Times Square, he didn't want people to get confused, staring at the tall skyscrapers and thinking to themselves, "How the hell do you get around this place?"

He wanted something people were familiar with; something they could comprehend upon a single look at their surroundings. He wanted people to understand that Times Square was simply another extension of New York, but a significant one. The same approach should be taken with any type of website, magazine, or intranet structure. Taking what is familiar and adding your own little twist to it without over-complicating the design - that is the goldmine.
