I'm Not There Review

Haynes' adventurous biopic of Bob Dylan uses six actors from different time eras and ages is a highly stylistic and thought-provoking choice to tell a complex singer's life. Characters become reborn, they fall, and they reflect Bob Dylan's persona extremely well - but moreover brings attention to the influences and experimental methodology that Dylan may have used himself throughout his musical career. It's almost challenging pieces together all of the pieces, but any Dylan fan should find the utmost appreciation for this piece of work; it's one of the more artistic and well-thought out musical biographies out there. 8.2/10.

The Best PC vs. Mac Anology Ever

A good friend of mine said it best. A Mac is like a good prostitute. You pay good money to do crazy things that your wife wouldn't do, but at the end of the day the prostitute isn't nearly as useful as your wife. You're wife can do alot more than in your life than a prostitute. Yeah, it's fun and sexy, but is the price really worth it? I think I'll stick to my PC.

Hot Rod Review

While screenwriting and directing is rather lacking during most of the movie, its feel-good attitude and homage to almost all 80's underdog movies is something to admire. Personally, I felt a kid in middle school may have found a bit more appreciation for the dry humor, but the movie itself carries over time well and is worth a watch if you have nothing else to put on. 6.7/10.

The Bank Job Review

Bust out a plate of chips, kick back and enjoy. That's the type of movie the Bank Job is - nothing loud or boisterous. No over-stylized cinematography, pointless set-pieces, or cheesy dialogue - just a good ol' average bank robbery movie. With Jason Statham, of course. 7.3/10.

I need a new camera. Something with 720p video recording. Something ridiculously awesome. I think this Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 should do the trick.

Now That's Interesting

I don't know what catches my attention more; the fact that the stairway in this house design goes straight through the kithen counter... or that it's called the "Tattoo House." Whatever Andrew Maynard may have been thinking, it's unique and I likey.

Story of Ricky Review

This movie laying around forever, but I've finally committed an hour and a half to one of the most pointless stories ever told. That's not to deny how highly entertaining it is - but that's when it's sheer carnage, which takes up about half of the movie. The rest, unfortunately, is slow-paced trash that should've just been removed completely. For the curious, yes - that's a guy trying to choke Ricky with his intestines. 6.5/10.

Lust, Caution Review

Ang Lee's latest piece is an ambitious cinematic venture into conflict, sense, and sensibility. The direction is incredible; no scene is overlooked and the character's emotions are captured so realistically that you get goosebumps as Tony Leung puts forward one of his best performances yet. And to be clear, it's not adequate enough to be considered an espionage film - it's a romantic film noir for adults. Though I'm only 22, I find the emotional complexity within the film to be almost impossible to grasp for anyone younger than 18. It's almost necessary for you to take a few hits from life in order to enjoy the film fully. That said, an incredible piece worthy of an Oscar. 9.0/10.

Initial Take on Intellectual Usability Design

Like when the first man planned out the city plan of New York's Times Square, he didn't want people to get confused, staring at the tall skyscrapers and thinking to themselves, "How the hell do you get around this place?"

He wanted something people were familiar with; something they could comprehend upon a single look at their surroundings. He wanted people to understand that Times Square was simply another extension of New York, but a significant one. The same approach should be taken with any type of website, magazine, or intranet structure. Taking what is familiar and adding your own little twist to it without over-complicating the design - that is the goldmine.

Boogie Nights Review

Rarely do films that surround a taboo subject pull off a movie worth watching, but Boogie Nights may be the only exception I can think of. All characters are memorable, the camera work is fantastic, and there's enough substance here to call it more of a movie that's character progression than pointless gratuitous violence and sexual themes. Though I am not at all doubting the presence of those things, it's a fun watch. A bit long, but entertaining nonetheless. 8.3/10.

There Will Be Blood Review Revisted

A second viewing justifies an updated score. Powerful, mesmerizing, and unbelievably emotionally draining; this multi-layered portrait of all that comes with a desire for power makes no apologies in delivering one of the greatest character studies of all time. We have Daniel Day-Lewis playing Daniel Plainview - he is a salesman and he does it very, very well. Accompanied by one of the most haunting scores in any movie, it's one of those movies that will require a completely full stomach, a high appreciation of art, and more importantly, the willingness to comprehend that this is what all that our capitalistic society is based upon; nothing more, nothing less. 9.3/10.

iPhone Hype Deterred, Hipsters Disagree

Oh, how many days have I stood outside an AT&T kiosk simply staring at that wonderful device that is the iPhone. People claim it's an item you must try to love, not just because of the specs on paper. However, I really don't use my iPod that much, just every other day. No one really calls me constantly either. From that alone, the iPhone is simply an impulse buy for me - a sheep's obsession.

But why does it hurt so much when I think about not having one? Must be the Silicon Valley water.

Minimalistic House in Iporanga by Arthur Casas

Clean, but warm. A combination that's undeniably Arthur Casas, and is a beautiful example of minimalistic design. In the form of two large symmetrical cubes embracing an open space, this house was idealized as his dream house. Arthur’s aim was interiors in total synergy with exteriors. Bringing the outside in are 11 meter floor to ceiling glass windows, on both ends of the open central space. Cumaru wood paneling runs from top to bottom in an attempt to match and blend in with is beautiful surroundings. More info here.

What The Hell Is Kitsuné?

Sometimes I'm convinced that I am European. I mean, not in a skin color changing sense, but with all the music I've been listening to, one would start to expect my ability to shit out Joy Division babies or something. That's right, oh... but what is Kitsuné?

Well, have a listen. Then buy (yes I said buy) their album here.

Bat For Lashes, Donnie Darko's Reincarnation

This song was written about a fat guy she met. To the fat guy, it was just a one night stand. He spoke wonderfully well on that fateful evening. He spoke of his interests, "Working with cripples, and just helping people, really." She thought he was the one. Anyway, they went back to his stinking pad. He pumped at her arse furiously, until he was done. And then, like she was nothing, said, "Right, I'm going to order an Indian. You can stay if you want, but I'd prefer it if you fucked off." Feel her pain.

Lykke Li Is Just A Little Bit Hipper
