New Home This August

It may be quite a stretch to aim for such extravagance in the place I'll be moving into this summer with a small group of young musicians, DJs, and general hipsters, but one can always dream, right?

A Higher Purpose

Reminds me of the stuff we've learned in the history of HCI up until the third wave. Hoping to not make it a trend of having RSA videos every other day, but they inspire so many ideas for my sketch notes that I just can't help it.

The take home message? We need to motivate pay people enough for what they do so that they're not thinking about money. Then, provide them with the following:
Autonomy: Ability to have self-direction.
Mastery: Ability to get better at something.
Purpose: Ability to contribute to something great.

Carlito's Way Review

They sure don't make them like they used to. For me, Carlito's Way is an extremely underrated Al Pacino movie. While it doesn't rank nearly as high as Goodfellas, it's a damn good crime story that's fully delivered with confidence, accompanied by superb performances by a talented cast, and might even surprise you as not being the Pacino bloodbath everyone's become accustomed to. If anything, you can consider it a nice little accompaniment to Scarface - a brilliant emotion one at that. 8.4/10.

5 Things That Drive Me Crazy

1) The way Subway arranges their cheese triangles
2) Plastic wrapped organic potatoes
3) Dishwashers that can't clean the top row of dirty cups
4) Day old donuts
5) Photos of delicious food taken with crappy cameras

Funny how these things all kind of revolve around food...

Shutter Island Review

Continuity error theories, multiple hallucination interpretations, and endless forum hypotheses. Only Scorsese can deliver such a package that leaves you scared shitless - not only due to the fact that it throws your mind into a blender, but the captivating sound work and pacing (which may be too slow for some) is crucial in delivering such gripping intensity that draws you into the main character's carnage up until the very end. An excellent film if you're a fan of post-movie conversations. 8.5/10.

About My Blank Notebook

There's something about finding the perfect sketchbook that's become somewhat of an obsessive side hobby of mine these past few months. No logos, subltle barely-there white lines on the pages, and the ability to opens fully flat. Well, today the impossible has happened. And it's $24 without shipping from Europe.

Home Away From Home

Svenn's home away from home is the perfect sanctuary for traveling students studying afar and interns working in different cities this summer. Heck, he even makes futons look kinda comfortable.
