Sten in Rome: Screen That Wall

Some frickin' badass new work by urban/modern day artist Sten. The portrait is of Ken Menzies and was placed in the "piazzale flaminio" near the "piazza del popolo", in Roma.

Reign Over Me Review

It's often difficult combining dark comedy and the sensitive subject of loss, but the performances by Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle unexpectedly bring to life exactly that; in turn, creating one of the most refreshing, intense, and moving dramas I have seen in a while. This is a story about grief, family, healing, male friendship, mental health, and the meaning of love. Sit down, grab a cup of tea, and enjoy an incredible journey that definitely does not disappoint. 9.0/10.

Glass Candy: More Proof I Am Disco Stu

I am compulsively obsessed with disco right now. I want to flare my pants. Grow out my hair. Stop wearing Axe. I want to throw disco balls all over my room and shoot laser beams at them. Not for euphoria, but to convince my blood cells that disco is here to stay.

Blood Diamond Review

Finally, an epic Hollywood production that spills impressive truth as well as direction. Each shot from an AK-47 can be felt deeply. Every casualty felt in the millions. This is what accurate cinema should be about. Even if DiCaprio's voice acting can piss you off at times, the movie as a whole is a spectacular piece, worthy of a sit down. 8.7/10.

Hyolee: Korean, Hot, Has Acceptable Emo Hair

While she's doing push-ups, singing, or squeezing lotion out of a bottle, Hyori Lee is a spectacle to see. Now, she's coming out with a reality TV series following her life, called "Off The Record," allowing people to shadow her life (and into her showers). Am I looking for it on TiVo right now? You betcha.

1408 Review

The first thing that caught my attention about 1408 was the fact that it was based off a Stephen King book. C'mon, you can't go wrong with Stephen? Well, apparently you can, given the performance of this movie. After two hours of wasted life, the movie finally came to a crappy ass close surrounding a terrible storyline, cheesy visuals, followed by shitty aftertones. It reminded me a lot of Silent Hill: The Room, which also sucked ball hairs and was the worst of its series. In contrast, 1408 received even less direction, and it can be felt through severe headaches if you watch this movie. 4.9/10.

No Country For Old Men Review

A vividly dark and mesmerizing screenplay employs one of the most difficult elements to master in a movie; analysis of the human soul. What's even more unforgettable is Bardem's character Chigurh, a ruthless killer with his own twisted sense of ethics, evokes such an amazing presence that must be witnessed to do any justice. Though storytelling norm is broken, it manages to create both an unsatisfying yet true to their nature in maintaining the essence of the movie. That, in addition to fantastic casting, acting, and cinematography, it's highly recommended for anyone that's comfortable intaking the brutal edge of a demon's wrath. 9.6/10.

Arthur's Remotely Designed White Brick Masterpiece

If there's one thing I love more than computers, it's a spiffy loft for my sexy computer to reside in. If I had the money, I'd throw down some cash on a crappy Davis shed on top of a cafe and live there for the next few years to uprade it just like this. Though I'd more than likely go broke after my first Eames side table, you can check out multiple Eames items on Arthur's frickin' badass house tour.

Zatoichi Review

Zatoichi is the updated version of cult Japanese show some decades back. Taken in by Takeshi Kitano, the series are complexly adjoined, almost like scrapbooking with Kitano's deliberately brilliant and blood infested style. What we get is an extremely comical, memorable, and phenomenal piece of work worthy of my extreme praise. This isn't one you can pass up. 9.5/10.

Pixeljunk Monsters (PSN) Review

Combining some real time strategy with tower defense, Pixeljunk gets it dead on with Monsters. Especially the co-op mode, if you got a friend around who thinks Wii graphics are cutesy, presents an surprisingly rich, engaging, and fun experience that'll keep you dreaming of coins and gems in your sleep. For the small price of just $10, the value is extremely high. Then again, newspaper Sodoku is free, so you could just go with that. 8.5/10.

Grave of the Fireflies Review

The problem with animated features is that it's often categorized as a childish medium, focused primarily on the sheer draw of entertainment rather than promoting a political statement or analysis of reality. Grave of the Firelies breaks this mold with a heartbreaking tale of a brother and sister who are forced to face the realities of life in a torn country. As an analysis, it suceeds, but more importantly it creates a haunting image of postwar effects on its citizens - especially the kids. With memorable characters, great art direction, and a downright brilliant screenplay makes this movie a must-see. 8.9/10.

In comes the poet, "Yo play that beat again, son, I'ma lay down a piece." In comes the beat box and then a freestyle completely takes off. Times like these where I kind of wonder where all the lyricists have gone in my inner circle.

Crazy Gas Masks, The Knife In Concert

While it's mighty fun listening to The Knife take on a reinvented 80's vibe, they sure do look freaky in concert. Whatever it is, you simply can't deny their effectiveness in creating the surreal sense of sadness and hope, branching from the deepest roots in Berlin's Take My Breath Away, and bringing out the sexy voice of the lead singer - making you just want to go on a long airplane ride out to sea.

Ikea BALK Flooring: Durable x Laminate

There's something about laminate that I love. Maybe I'm just a sucker for anything that mutates together a hybrid plastic/natural product. Ikea's new line of "wood" flooring seems to live up to the hype and performs genuinely well against animals, spills, and daily punishment. Probably will get these in my new house, given foreclosure continues to spiral out of control. Available in all IKEA locations.

Pocket-Sized DSLR: Sigma DP1

Ding ding! Finally, some camera makers are starting to realize there's an enthusiast market out there who don't enjoy carrying their huge cameras around like pompous assholes. What's even better is that it doesn't cost your life savings, running at about $1090. Curious about photo quality? Trust me, it's frickin' amazing.
