Freelensing Extreme Photography

Growing tired of the standard point and shoot practice? What about risking it all with this new technique called, "Freelensing." What is freelensing?

Freelensing means you take photos with the lens detached from the camera, but hold it in place and move it around to focus. Doing so causes some weird light leaks, giving it a very hipstery-vintage feel.

If you plan to try it, know that none of the digital auto-focusing will work and you do risk geting dust on the sensor. If you want lots on lightleaks or the super-macro kind of effect, you will need to hold the lens a little bit further away (probably no more than a finger width, though).

Honestly, I probably wouldn't try this unless your sensor is a bit fucked already, but hey - if you're not risking it all, you're not living life! Or something.

Control and Contrast

How interesting it would be to have an interior like the above pic with an exterior of an abandoned Adam's Family house. The ultimate Halloween House for a dance party? Why yes, I believe so.

Artful House Galleries

Super giggity. There's three elements I love here. The white to wood floor transition. Second, the view from the kitchen is of art. Third, Helvetica, baby.

Fried Egg Sandwich Recipe

I'm hungry.
 • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
 • 1/2 teaspoon or more, to taste,
 • Sriracha chile paste
 • 2 slices lightly toasted whole grain bread
 • 1 fried egg
 • 2-3 thin slices of Gruyere
 • Handful of mixed greens
 • Freshly cracked salt and pepper, to taste
Mix mayo and Sriracha to make aioli. Spread the aioli over lightly toasted whole grain bread, and place a fried egg on one slice. Then, cover egg with cheese like Gruyere. And finally, sprinkle with some greens and freshly cracked salt and black pepper. Top with second slice of toast.

As far as I try to run away from it, I'll always be a minimalist at heart.

Hello MSC Poster Prints

It's been a while in the making, but I finally gotten to it. Here's a limited edition print run of my HCI Design x Mad Skills (MSC) remix of the Keep Calm Carry On poster from WWII. The top portion is just an extra project for my industrial design class.
The posters will be sized at 10" x 14" (IKEA frameable!) and will be distributed randomly (and for FREE!) throughout the Indiana Informatics building this weekend.

Hello Boots

If I recall last year, I prepped for Winter a bit late and ended up freezing my ass off for the first few weeks when it dropped below 30F. Not this year. I'm already preppin' my boots purchase within the next few weeks. Meanwhile, leaves are changing quick, love is turning up, and I'm still missing you.

Splice Review

Splice pretty much is a rollercoaster that hypes it big in the beginning and ends up breaking down halfway into the ride. Well, maybe breaking down isn't the right word. Maybe lost in an unnecessary plot muck with confusing "build-up" directions, irritating characters, and plenty of WTF moments that really scratching your head on whether this was really worth your initial interest at all. Well, for me, it wasn't and what could have been a really good movie now goes onto my digital shelf under the category "Could have been awesome, but failed somewhere in between." 7.1/10.

The Social Network Review

Interesting. It's not often a social phenomenon becomes so quickly adapted and directed/produced by such a talented team. Trent Reznor. David Finch. So it's not really too surprisingly that The Social Network manages to deliver in all fronts, both in screenplay and cinematography. All characters are wonderfully played and the brisk pace of the film reminds of the likes of Fight Club or Zodiac, creatively capturing a story in a calculated manner - but manages to be sweetly transparent in a sense that makes it feel both intelligent and engaging as a modern biopic of one of the greatest talents of our decade. 8.8/10.

There's a Limit to Your Love

Surrealist imagery and unnervingly lows takes this 'Limit To Your Love' video by James Blake one of the most incredible video pieces I've had the pleasure to see recently. Love Martin de Thurah. Need to make more videos.

Good Design Principles by Homeboy Dieter

Principle number seven: Good design is non-obtrusive. Good design should be well-rounded. Good design should be fully thought out at every angle.

The Idea on Paper

Create multiple points of entry for an artist's work. Awards for connoisseurship. Digital (intangible) proof of connoisseurship. Discography that spans all mediums. An "immersive" experience. Concerts as collections. Validity confirmed by the artist themselves. Sharing. Social scene. Identity. Music. The listener's time as the medium of exchange/value. Listen. The more you listen, the bigger the fan. Play, play, play. Webcams? Maybe. Natural touch? Even better. Here's to writing the digital experience 7.0. No, 8.0.

Intelligent Design is Subtle

A new design solution shouldn't break the mold of how we think of the world today. It should embrace it. It should adapt it. It should transform by contextual inquiry in the most efficient means possible.

Wet and Wild, Music Match

I plan to attack my thesis with a multi-pronged, intensely passionate approach. And while it may sound like a mere resume builder on the surface, I will hit each branch with the power of a thousand Billy Mays commercials.

My final deliverable must have these attributes:
 - Captivatingly articulate; I want it to tell a story and get people out of their seats and bring tears to their eyes
 - Provacatively thoughtful; I want to challenge conventions and inspire movements
 - Sensorially inspired; I want to use what makes us human to engage these senses
 - Builds a brand; I want to position and market a strong brand strategy
 - Builds on rationale; I want to use the observations and understanding gained from all my years of experience in the field of domestic home media
 - Builds behavior change; I want to emphatically change behavior of people
Perhaps these are ultimately design principles I wish to uphold, but I'm confident that these will resonate well if I've done my homework and deliver something I'll be proud of for the rest of my lifetime.

It's true. High fiving is one of the most stressful things in life if you don't understand the cultural dynamics of it all. Luckily, this video will give you a brief overview. I tend to give the 12-stepper, FYI.
